Spray Dryer

Spray dryer that atomises fruit and vegetable liquids into fine droplets inside a hot air chamber, drying them to a powder within seconds.
How it works
Liquid feed is pumped to an atomiser — a high-speed rotary disc or a pressure nozzle — at the top of a drying chamber. The atomiser produces droplets with a very large surface area, which meet a stream of heated air and dry almost instantly as they fall. Dry powder is collected at the chamber base and from a cyclone or bag filter downstream; the exhaust air carries away the evaporated moisture.
Because drying takes seconds, the product temperature stays far below the inlet air temperature, which is what makes spray drying viable for heat-sensitive fruit liquids.
Suitable for
Fruit juice and concentrate powders; tomato powder and vegetable powders; instant drink bases and soup mixes; extracts and flavour carriers; product where a free-flowing, soluble powder is the required form.
Not suitable for
Whole or piece product, which needs a belt, cabinet or freeze dryer; very small batches, where chamber size and start-up losses dominate; high-sugar feeds without carrier or agglomeration handling, because they stick to the chamber wall; product whose aroma cannot survive even short heat exposure.
Material & compliance
Chamber, atomiser and powder contact surfaces in SUS304 (EN 1.4301); SUS316L (EN 1.4404) on request for acidic feeds. Chamber designed for washdown or CIP; air heated indirectly or filtered to food-contact standard.
Supplied with CE declaration of conformity and DoC on request; material certificate EN 10204 3.1 available for contact parts.
Selection notes
Size on water to be evaporated, not on feed rate — a feed at 10% solids and the same feed at 45% solids are completely different machines. Ask about wall deposition on your specific feed; high-sugar fruit juices are the classic sticking problem and may need carrier addition or a modified chamber. Check powder separation and whether the fines are recovered or lost.
When you should not buy this machine: If your feed is high in sugar with no carrier, expect wall build-up, browning and frequent cleaning — a freeze dryer may give a better product at lower throughput. Also skip it if your batches are small: start-up and shutdown losses on a spray dryer are significant and will eat a small run.

FAQ
Why does my fruit powder stick to the chamber wall?
Sugar and acid in fruit juice lower the glass transition temperature, so particles stay soft and tacky at outlet conditions. Solutions include carriers such as maltodextrin, lower outlet temperature, or a chamber designed for sticky products.
Rotary atomiser or pressure nozzle?
A rotary atomiser handles higher feed rates and more viscous or particulate feed with less blockage risk. Pressure nozzles give a coarser, more agglomerated powder and suit lower rates. Choose on feed characteristics and powder specification.
How fine is the powder?
Typically tens to a few hundred microns, set by atomiser speed or nozzle pressure and by feed solids. If you need instant solubility rather than fine powder, specify an agglomeration stage.
