Fruit Coring Machine

Fruit coring machine removing cores and pits from apples and pears

Automatic coring and halving machine for apples, pears and firm stone fruit that removes cores, pits and stems ahead of slicing, pulping or canning.

How it works

Fruit is singulated onto orientation cups or belts. A centring device aligns each piece, then a tubular coring knife drives through the axis to remove the core and seed cavity. Downstream attachments halve, quarter or slice the remaining ring. Stone fruit versions replace the tubular knife with a pit-removal punch and a split blade.

Orientation matter: most coring defects come from fruit that is not aligned to the knife axis before the cut, not from the knife itself.

Suitable for

Apples and pears for slices, puree or juice; firm stone fruit (peach, apricot, plum) with a pitting head; quince and similar firm pome fruit; product destined for canning, drying or further size reduction.

Not suitable for

Very soft or overripe fruit that deforms during centring; berries and small fruit with no defined axis; fruit with variable calibre beyond the cup range; product where the pit must stay intact for a stuffed product.

Material & compliance

Coring knives and product-contact surfaces SUS304 (EN 1.4301); cups and guides in food-grade polymer or stainless. Knife assemblies removable without tools for washdown.

Supplied with CE declaration of conformity and DoC on request; material certificate EN 10204 3.1 available for contact parts.

Selection notes

Buy for your calibre range, not your average fruit — a cup set sized to the average will mis-orient both extremes, and mis-orientation is the main source of yield loss. Ask how many cup sizes ship with the machine and what a spare set costs. Check whether the machine can be converted between coring and pitting, since stone fruit and pome fruit need different heads.

When you should not buy this machine: If your fruit is soft-ripe, a corer will crush more than it saves — a pulper with a destoning screen is the better route. Also skip a corer if your downstream step is puree anyway; in that case a crusher plus a finisher with a stone trap does the same job for less capital.

FAQ

How much yield loss should I expect?

Coring removes the seed cavity and a margin around it. Loss depends on fruit calibre and how well pieces are centred — poorly oriented fruit loses much more. Ask the factory for a measured yield figure on your actual fruit rather than a generic percentage.

Can one machine core apples and pit peaches?

Usually not with the same head. Pome fruit needs a tubular coring knife; stone fruit needs a punch and split blade. Some machines offer interchangeable heads — confirm whether the conversion kit is included or priced separately.

What causes off-centre cores?

Worn centring cups, fruit outside the calibre range, or feed rate above the singulation capacity. Most cases trace back to cups rather than knives.
